April is national poetry month and this week AS English Literature students have been celebrating the poetry of the late Seamus Heaney. This Thursday, April 13th, would have been Heaney’s 78th birthday and this week students have been celebrating in the most appropriate way possible – with chocolate cake! This term 13D students have been very busy exploring and closely analysing Heaney’s poetry in preparation for their upcoming AS examination on May 19th. Heaney once said “I can’t think of a case where poems changed the world, but what they do is they change people’s understanding of what’s going on in the world.” Indeed, the poetry of Seamus Heaney has been challenging our personal perceptions, enlightening us to view the changing world around us with a far greater understanding and appreciation. Hurrah for Heaney!
