We were delighted to hear that our Friends of New-Bridge fundraising committee have been nominated for the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s Community Awards 2018.  The awards aim to recognise groups and individuals who make a valuable contribution to community life and afford the opportunity to recognise and thank local people  of outstanding merit for making a difference in the lives of others in the our Council area.

Mrs Anderson nominated the Friends of New-Bridge Parents association for the ABC Community Group Awards 2018 for their tireless efforts in not only supporting the school but also for promoting our integrated ethos.  These group of parents have met regularly over the years to plan events which bring people together from different backgrounds. They have organised fund raising activities which have enabled the school to purchase new ICT facilities which in turn our local community has benefitted from.  They have not only organised discos for the pupils of New-Bridge, quiz nights for the families and local community but also were instrumental in the organisation of our New-Bridge Does Strictly Come Dancing , which took place in the Canal Court last year and raised a significant amount of money for our school.

Friends of New-Bridge are part of the Schools Welcoming Committee, welcoming prospective families to our school on Open Day and providing catering facilities for other events in the school.  Friends of New-Bridge play a key role in contributing to the event s of the college throughout ‘Integrated Month’ and in the past they have organised cultural evenings to showcase the diverse aspects to our community, where music, dance and food have been celebrated from different parts of the world.  They are committed group of people, always thinking of new ways to fund raise to support the needs of our pupils and provide recreational opportunities for our local community. This team of parents promote inclusion in all their work and Mrs Anderson said “ I are truly very grateful to the all the help and support they have provided the New-Bridge Community with over the years and I am delighted that they have been shortlisted for this prestigious award – Friends of New-Bridge are always looking for new members, so I would encourage more parents to become a member of this dedicated team’.

Mrs Lorraine Bell, acting chair, Mrs Rosemary Teggart, treasurer and Mrs Anderson are looking forward to attending the awards ceremony on Thursday 10 May in the Craigavon Civic Centre.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish the group the best of luck in the final.
