New-Bridge College Student Chris Cumming, a young rider from Warrenpoint began mountain biking two years ago at the age of 10.   His Parents took Chris to Scotland for his first race as he was too young to race in Ireland. It was the Scottish Power Mini Downhill Series 2014 and he achieved 1st place overall qualifying for the final in Fort William during the Saturday of the UCI World were he came 4th. After that race weekend Chris knew exactly what he wanted for his future.

Chris has just completed his first race season as a first year juvenile and has achieved 19 podiums (individual races).  The highlights of these wins have been:

  • Becoming Irish National Juvenile Champion 2015
  • Winning the Irish Downhill Mountain Bike Series Juvenile Category 2015
  • Being ranked 3rd in the British Downhill Series 2015
  • Wining the Scottish Power Mini Downhill Series 2014

In August Chris took part in the iXS Rookies Cup in Austria racing in the U15 category and seeding 2nd at Brandnertal.  One week later Chris went back out to Austria to race in the iXS Rookie Champs which was an unbelievable experience and finished 13th overall in a huge class or riders from all over the world.  He was still only 12 years old but racing in the U15 category.

Chris has been selected by a bike manufacturing company and is now on the Nukeprook Factory Racing Team  – there will be articles posted on their website and across Social Media next month about his achievements as it is very unusual for someone so young to be selected onto such a team.

Well Done Chris and Best Wishes for Continued Success!
