New-Bridge Amy to Perform in Carnegie Hall, New York!

Amy Jordan, a year 10 student from New–Bridge Integrated College is preparing to head off, along with her fellow musicians from the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI), to tour in America over the Halloween break.

This is 14 year old Amy’s second year with the acclaimed youth orchestra as a second violinist and while she has completed two National tours this will be her first International tour.

The CBOI, Ireland’s leading youth orchestra, is made up of 110 young musicians aged 12 – 24 years from both sides of the community and both sides of the border. It was established in 1995 as a means of bringing young people of all traditions, cultures and faiths from all over Ireland together to promote tolerance and understanding through the power of music.

It is this promotion of unity that connects it so closely to the ethos of Integrated Education.

The tour which lasts 7 days will climax with a performance on the prestigious stage of Carnegie Hall, New York on Thursday 30th October at 7.30pm. To play on the stage of Carnegie Hall is quite an honour and like every other musician Amy is very excited at the prospect. To claim such an achievement at the tender age of 14 makes the prospect even more exciting.

The CBOI is now recruiting new members so if you can play any orchestral instrument (except piano) or bagpipes/highland pipes and would like to join an orchestra that can offer you these opportunities then contact the CBOI via email at crossborderorchestra@eircom.net or Tel 00353 868283268  Closing date 31st October 2014.
