  3. Health and Social Care Students visit to Bannview Nursing Home

On Monday 29th September Year 13 health and social care students visited Bannview Nursing home in Banbridge to meet the residents and get an insight into the area of work that we are  interested in pursuing.    See gallery for  photographs.

While we were there we were able to interact with many of the residents and get an insight into their daily routine including activities and meal times. We also were able to converse with some of the staff in the nursing home, gaining some knowledge on the skills and qualities needed to work in this area.

This experience was very beneficial to all of us as it opened our eyes to the health and social care sector and also helped us to see the services in action. The environment within Bannview was very family oriented.  One of the residents told us how she “never feels alone and always has someone to call on”.  This was reassuring to know that she felt comfortable and content.

To say we were impressed with the services provided to the elderly residents would have been an understatement as each individual was treated with respect and each of their needs were tended to.

From a careers point of view, the experience was invaluable.   We really enjoyed interacting with the residents and staff of Bannview Nursing Home.
