Author of the Month – October

Kevin Brooks writes books for young adults, many of which have crime and thriller elements. His first novel “Martyn Pig”(2002) is a black comedy about a 15yr old boy who decides not to tell the authorities when his alcoholic father dies accidentally, was shortlisted for a 2002 Carnegie Medal. All Brooks novels are tightly plotted, gripping page-turners which build tension with skilful sophistication. Although Brooks tackles difficult and sometimes controversial issues his tone is never preacher or moralistic. The author encourages empathy with the characters rather than judgement.

After many of his book being shortlisted for literary prizes, his latest novel “The Bunker Diary” (2013) won the prestigious CILIP Carnegie Medal in 2014.

The library has a good selection of Kevin Brooks novels including his latest work “The Ultimate Truth” and “The Danger Game”
