  3. International Women’s Day

On Friday the 8th March a group of nine Year 14 girls, accompanied by Ms Johnson and and Ms Byrne, attended an International Women’s Day Event at the Armagh City Hotel. Since it’s birth, this event has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration honoring women’s advancement, while at the same time reminding us of the need for continued work to ensure that women’s equality is maintained in all aspects of life.

On the day we heard inspirational talks from some of Northern Ireland’s most recognised and successful young women. This included Councillor Sharon Haughey- Grimley ( SDLP),Councillor Carla Lockhart( DUP) the youngest ever Mayor of Craigavon, and Hannah Shields the first woman from Northern Ireland to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 2007 and to ski to the North Pole.

The group all agreed that the account of her mountaineering expedition was both exciting and motivational to the young ladies present. She even took time to give words of advice to our own New-Bridge Hannah Shields and set her some goals. No pressure then Hannah!!
